The club exists as a space for information and culture, social, sports and exchange- its open to all journalists. The club aslo works to defend freedom of the press and uphold professional ethics. The club only represents its members- it has complete independence from the goverenment and any other organizations or trade unions.
Portugal does not have a formal regulatory press council, this body is a press club.
